Frequently Asked Questions

  • Hands at Work is a behind-the-scenes photo spotlight on local creatives, makers, and small business owners.

We’re here for process, craft, and the details that make your work yours.

  • Email us with 3–5 time windows that work for you, plus your location and a quick note on what you make/do. We’ll pick a time and get it on the calendar.

We typically shoot weekdays. We’ll lock a time that fits both sides.

  • Wherever you naturally make your work: your studio, shop, home workspace, rehearsal space, etc.

  • We’ll photograph you working, plus close-up details of tools, materials, hands, and space. This will be documentary-style: relaxed, minimal posing, lots of “just keep doing your thing.”

    Most shoots run 45–90 minutes.

  • If your space is normally busy, we have two options:

    • Preferred: Pick a “shoot day” when the space is closed or quiet, and invite a few friends/family to stop by so we can capture the vibe without needing photo permissions from the public.

    • Otherwise: We’ll do our best to shoot around customers and keep faces out of frame. If you’d like customers featured, we’ll request their permission on the shoot day.

  • Wear what feels like you, and what you’d actually work in.

  • We’ll share a small selection on Hands at Work (Instagram + website) with a short written spotlight. You can use your full set for your socials, website, and portfolio.

If you’re hoping to use images for paid advertising, product packaging, or larger commercial campaigns, just tell us up front so we can align on scope and permissions.

  • If there’s anything sensitive (private address, client info, faces you don’t want shown, etc.), tell us before we shoot and we’ll plan around it. We’re always happy to confirm a final select for posting if needed if requested. Otherwise, we’ll choose photos based on quality.

  • Hands at Work is about one person + their process, not a full marketing shoot.

    • We don’t shoot work where the maker doesn’t own the full process from idea to finished piece.

    • We don’t do general “coverage” for a business, event, or organization.

    • We don’t create ad or campaign content (shot lists, product grids, promo assets).

    • We don’t make customers/the public the subject. If your space is busy, we’ll shoot around people unless permission is given.
